So I’m just going to say that I’m a terrible critic. I never seem to have any real ability to accurately evaluate or critique myself. In fact, I never seem to measure up to anyone’s expectations, so I don’t really feel bad about that. But I really do think that the people that criticize me are people that I don’t even know.
That’s the problem with criticism. If you’ve got that kind of reputation, you’ll sometimes be told you’re a terrible critic. People who are supposed to be good at criticism might be bad at criticism. You can’t really tell for sure based on just a quick glance.
So in the past I’ve been criticized for being a terrible critic, but I think it’s more a case of good criticism. I could talk about my favorite books for hours! I can also talk about my favorite films! I’m also really funny and great at making stuff up, so I can say that a lot! I dont think I have any real flaws.
I think it is really important to be a good critic in order to write a good review. However, there are times when you shouldnt have to be like that. If I was reviewing a movie or book for a publication I would certainly try to give it a positive review, but I wont do that if i dont have to. Its not that I hate criticism, I just think it is something you shouldnt have to do.
There are two types of people who can be the worst critics: the ones who just say “oh, this was good,” and the ones who are just like that person. The best critics will try to remember that they are in fact doing a service to the public, and the worst critics will just say “yay, I made a bad review” and move on.
Sometimes it is so difficult to be the best critic that you get caught up in the criticism and feel it. It’s much easier to write a review and ignore the criticism if you feel like it. That’s why I love reviews, and hate critics who try to manipulate the review process.
Oh, you mean the ones who try to get you to take a review of your own to be objective? Well, I am a terrible critic. I only review books I’ve read or watched, and I don’t write reviews of movies or anything.
I mean that the bad reviews are bad. But I also like how reviewers make you feel like you are being used, so you feel like you are the one being manipulated. I don’t think I am. It’s just that the bad reviews take away some of the fun of writing a review.
I think that what makes you feel manipulated is that you feel bad that you have to go through the review process at all. To me, the best reviewers are those that actually make you feel good that you are doing something worthwhile, not the ones who take away some of the fun of writing a review.
It’s important that you feel good about your writing. It’s also important that your writing is readable. A negative review has a different effect on your writing than a positive review. A bad reviewer makes their reviews look worse, which will cause you to put your writing on the line. A positive reviewer makes their reviews look better and allows you to find your voice. A bad reviewer will cause you to make your review feel like it’s coming from a place of hurt instead of a place of joy.
