There was a time in the late 80s and early 90s when people who were the best at certain things were encouraged to focus their efforts on improving things that were currently awful. We call this something like “enmeshment self-hqrm.” This is when someone who was good at swimming could learn to swim better. It was a good thing but not something that should be encouraged, because you never know whether you might end up swimming in a lake with no current or not.
