Thanks for the intro for this. The idea of having a central bank is to use the money (for the long haul) to pay for the debt of the nation’s most important people (the U.S. Treasury). You can also use the money to pay for the mortgage (the debt is not the U.S. Treasury). So when you buy a house, you need to have the money to pay the mortgage.
