caregiver burnout vs compassion fatigue: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

In the world of caregiver burnout, we see a lot of people being exhausted, stressed, and worn out. Most of us can relate to this. We are tired, stressed, and overworked, but in most cases we are doing all we can to help others. And while this certainly isn’t a good thing, it is also what we need to be doing.

It is not a good thing, but it is also what we need to be doing. Unfortunately, the people who were once our caregivers are now our caregivers, and the stress they put on others is exhausting. While this is not a good thing, it is also what we need to be doing.

Being a caregiver is a lot of work. It can be exhausting, frustrating, and tiring. People will always ask you to do something, and you will always, always, always, be there. But the people who are most important to you are not always the people who are the easiest to get along with. And those are the people who need you the most.

This is the thing that’s so hard about being a caregiver. Yes, you are doing a job that you are not paid to do, and it may be hard to let the joy of doing the job slip away. But you are also doing it for a cause. You are doing it for the people who need you most. You are doing it for them.

Well, that’s true and it is also true that most of us are actually kind of horrible at being there for the people who are neediest. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need the company. Because we do. We need the company to feel like we’re doing something meaningful so we don’t feel like we’re just being a burden to the person who is doing the best job they can.

I am not sure it is possible for a caregiver to ever burn out but if you have a job that is a lot of time and energy on your plate with no room for compassion fatigue, it might be time to look into therapy.

It all started as a joke. So far our clients have been very supportive of us saying that we are “the caregiver burned out” because we do care about our clients. We also say we are “the caregiver who is burnt out” because we are exhausted from caring for our clients. It’s kind of funny because we never really considered that we would be the one who is burnt out.

In therapy we are working on the idea of being burned out as a caregiver. We often say that we need to stop caring and just be the caregiver, because our clients need us the most. But we also have to be the caregiver who is burnt out because the clients need us the most. It’s like the two of us are two sides of the same coin. And we can’t be one or the other.

The idea of being burnt out as a caregiver is something I always thought was a bit of a joke. But it turns out that while we may have been joking, we are really describing a real situation. A client who is burnt out as a caregiver, is in the same boat as a client who is burnt out as a parent. They both care for their families, and yet they are both suffering and exhausted. And they both have a good point.

I was recently on a call with a client who had a new mother. She was overwhelmed by the new role of caring for her children. She was tired and burnt out. And yet, she cared for her children, and gave them an amazing life. She cared for them, but she was tired.
